EE-118/218 Digital Design
Course Guidelines
This course is a junior/senior/masters level course and you will be expected to work independently
and with teammates on homework, labs and projects. The idea is to prepare
you for a career where you will have to solve problems
on your own and contribute effectively to team assignments. Also note that
this is a WAC course. There will be an emphasis on good technical writing
in the lab and project reports.
Course Web Page
The Blackboard web site is at http://online.union.edu.
Your username is the first 7 letters of your last name followed by the
first initial, followed by the last three digits of your student ID number.
The password is initially your student ID number. You should change it
promptly after logging in the first time. On your Blackboard account you
will find links to the EE-118 course as well as any other courses that
you are taking that use Blackboard. On-line grades and surveys will be
available on Blackboard as well as a link to the main course page, http://doc.union.edu/118.
Homework
Exercises will be assigned weekly, collected on Wednesdays at class time,
and graded. Late homework will not be accepted. You may work together on
assignments, but the work you submit must be your own. Assignments that appear
to be copied will receive a severely reduced grade.
Laboratories
There will be five laboratory assignments and projects. Most labs will be team efforts. Teams will
be assigned for some laboratories. Each lab will require:
-
Prelab - assignment due at the beginning of the lab session. Completion
of prelabs will be strictly enforced and the lack of a completed prelab
will result in a 10% penalty in the lab report grade.
-
Lab report - due dates will be posted on the lab web page. Grade is
based on both technical content and writing. Team reports will have both
individual and team grades.
The final laboratory will require an oral presentation of the results.
A lab notebook to keep notes on instructions and commands learned
in each week's lab is highly recommended.
