Union Robot Camp 2001Tuesday, July 17th |
| Today we started to assemble the robot bodies. There was a lot
of hidden work here.
First the servo motors had to be modified. The stops needed to be removed and the potentiometer was replaced with two resistors. On one of the servos, the wires were reversed to make it run the opposite direction. |
| Then the servos were mounted on the Carpet Rover body and attached to
the wheels. A tail wheel was added to provide a third point of
contact with the floor.
The 9V and 6V battery packs were added to the robots using varying adhesives including double-sided tape, velcro, hot glue, and as a final resort - electrical tape. The final construction step was to add two contact switches, an on-off switch, and a reset switch. Finally the servos were calibrated to find their stop positions. |
| Since we had to begin the programming part, we moved into N106 and
N108 to use
the computers there.
Once constructed, the Carpet Rovers were beautiful enough to use as hats! |
